According to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz, the reduction in tariffs was directly influenced by the understanding that Malaysian firms were making significant investments in US-made goods. “We had a discussion with the US trade representative and highlighted the large purchases of Boeing aircraft, as well as other US products, by Malaysian companies,” Zafrul explained. “They were pleased to know that we are buying so much from the US.”
